The early days. June 2022.

Bangalore shaped us. When you brew anything in this city, the craft beer culture finds its way into how you think. Our founder Honey had always been drawn to non-alcoholic beverages with intention — things that were functional and honestly made.

Combining her passion for gut health with the craft of fermentation, the question became obvious: why was kombucha only ever sold in a bottle? Why not fresh from a keg, the way the best beers are served?

In June 2022, we partnered and launched at Phobidden Fruit in Indiranagar — Bangalore's first kombucha on draft. It wasn't easy. Sourcing equipment suited to kombucha (not beer), maintaining culture integrity through the keg, getting the carbonation right — every step was uncharted. But we believed in it, and so did our first restaurant partner.

Just like a craft brewery serves its freshest ales on tap, we store our kombucha in food-grade, reusable kegs and pour it to order. No pasteurization. No filtering. No sitting on a shelf for months. The culture stays live and the flavour stays true.

Kombucha on tap means our kombucha is stored in food-grade kegs and poured fresh to your glass — just like a craft beer on draft. Our kombucha is never pasteurized or heat-treated, so the live cultures are fully intact at the point of pouring.

Draft kombucha retains its live probiotic cultures because it hasn't been pasteurized to extend shelf life. Most commercial kombucha are heat-treated, which significantly reduces the active cultures. Our on-tap kombucha is served unpasteurized and unfiltered — closer to what comes straight out of the fermenter.

We're currently on tap at Phobidden Fruit in Indiranagar (our original partner since June 2022) and Maverick & Farmer in Ulsoor. All our draft kombucha is brewed and kegged at the Mountain Bee Kombucha Hive, our home brewery in Bangalore. The list grows — reach out or follow us on Instagram for the latest.

All naturally fermented kombucha contains trace amounts of alcohol as a byproduct of fermentation — typically under 0.5%, which classifies it as a non-alcoholic beverage. Mountain Bee Kombucha is brewed as a non-alcoholic craft beverage. Our on-tap format does not change this.
